Making an Exhibition of Themselves
Eastbrook School last night celebrated being awarded Artsmark ‘Gold’ status by the Arts Council of England.
The event took the form of an exhibition of the best student work from Art, Media and Design Technology, and took place in the recently opened White Space building, an area dedicated to arts and performance in the school. There was also a live fashion show in which Year 11 Textiles students modelled clothes they had made themselves, as well as dance from the Performing Arts department.
The high note of the evening came from Year 11 band ‘Red Hour’, who entertained students and parents with their rendition of pop and rock classics.
‘The arts have long been a strength of Eastbrook School and it’s good to celebrate this national recognition of excellence’, said Headteacher Valerie Denis. ‘Engagement with the arts can transform lives and give young people a voice for their thoughts and feelings.’
Eastbrook has been a Specialist School in the Visual Arts since 2010. The Artsmark ‘Gold’ award further recognises the school’s excellent commitment to providing high quality arts provision across the curriculum. Artsmark is a prestigious award, supported by the Department for Education for Culture, Media and Sport, and sets the standard for outstanding arts provision in schools.
